On course safety

As one of Australia’s prestige ultra-marathon swims, safety is the primary focus for everyone involved in the U24. Ensuring that swimmers, kayakers, boat operators, jet skiers, land crew, support crew and of course spectators are all able to enjoy the day without incident, is an absolute priority.

We are proud to run the safest possible event we can envisage. The U24 Team has consulted on, discussed, and planned all aspects of how this can be achieved and while the continuing excellence of our safety track record will always depend on the cooperation of every one of our participants, we will continue to review and revise our safety standards and protocols with each ongoing event.

our environmental pledge

Everyone involved in putting together the U24 is fully committed to making the event as environmentally sustainable and responsible as possible. These are the ways in which we do it…

  • Without compromising the highest possible safety standards, we avoid using powered vessels as much as possible on the water

  • Each swimmer is accompanied by a paddler on either a kayak or surf ski

  • Our merchandise is created with a long and useful life in mind; clothing is made from natural fibres whenever possible and designed to be worn as often as possible, household items are reusable and recyclable

  • We collect and recycle all food and beverage containers and utensils

  • Our infrastructure is designed to be used year after year. Nothing disposable is selected for use

  • We encourage every participant – swimmers, paddlers, land support, staff, contractors, and volunteers – to “take only pictures, and leave only footprints”

  • Our advertising and communications are all electronic based. We don’t print materials unless absolutely essential
